Billionaire Niranjan Hiranandani Questioned By Probe Agency In Forex Case

Billionaire Niranjan Hiranandani was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate for almost 10 hours (ED) today in a foreign exchange violation case, sources said.

Niranjan Hiranandani, 73, the promoter of Mumbai-based Hiranandani Group, recorded his statement and also submitted some documents, news agency PTI reported.

His son Darshan Hiranandani was also asked to join the investigation by the ED in Mumbai as part of the probe under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

A Hiranandani Group spokesperson said the company's representative will remain fully cooperative in submitting required documents as was done previously multiple times and will appear when needed.

Darshan Hiranandani has been living in Dubai for the past several years.

The ED had searched premises of the Hiranandani Group in and around Mumbai last month. The realty group, established in 1978, has developed office and residential projects in Powai in central Mumbai and neighbouring Thane.

This ED probe is not linked to another FEMA investigation being conducted against Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra, who was recently expelled as a Lok Sabha MP.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had accused Ms Moitra of asking questions in Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.

Ms Moitra has denied wrongdoing and claimed she was being targeted.

Uzbek National With Medicines Worth Rs 1.3 Crore Arrested At Delhi Airport

An Uzbek national carrying more than 29,000 strips of medicine, worth about Rs 1.3 crore, was arrested by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at the Delhi airport, officials said on Thursday.

The passenger was intercepted by the security personnel on Wednesday morning at the terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport as his movement was found to be suspicious, a CISF officer said.

A bag stuffed with medicines was found from the passenger, he said. The man was headed for Tashkent in an Uzbekistan Airlines flight.

A total of 29,200 strips of Mesopril kit tablets were found in the bag, the officer said. The medicine is used for medical termination of early pregnancy, controlling excessive blood sugar level and treating gastric ulcers.

"As the passenger could not produce valid authorisation for carrying such a huge quantity of medicines, he was offloaded from the plane and handed over to customs officials," the CISF officer said.

The CISF provides a counter-terrorist and counter-sabotage cover to the Delhi airport.

Actor Siddhant Chaturvedi, who impressed fans and critics alike with his performance in Kho Gaye Hum Kahaan, recently opened up about facing challenges in Bollywood and also name checked actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana, who supported him during his trying times. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Siddhant said that he doesn't hold personal expectations from the industry, only professional ones. The actor said that Vicky Kaushal and Ranbir Kapoor helped him a lot. Talking of the advice the Animal star gave him, Siddhant said, "Ranbir spoke to me at length when he called me over to just chill, he doesn't do parties. I said ‘I don't know bhai, kuchh chal nahi raha' He said ‘no, keep working, don't be agitated about other people doing 100 other things or being seen'. That's his way of doing things. He is not anywhere but everywhere. Ranbir and Alia are the only two people who had sent me a long message after Gehraiyaan.”

Siddhant continued, “He said jab tu expect nahi kar raha hoga tab chalegi film. I was not expecting much from Kho Gaye. I said ‘okay, we have made it for a target group, those people will give it love' I didn't know so many people would like it.”

Netflix original Kho Gaye Hum Kahan also starred Ananya Panday and Adarsh Gourav. Siddhant Chaturvedi made an impactful debut in Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy.
