Rajasthan Lamb With Holy Number Fetches Rs 1 Crore Bid. Rejected.

A shepherd in Rajasthan's Churu district has refused to sell his lamb, which has an Urdu writing on its belly, despite receiving an offer of Rs 1 crore.

The lamb reportedly has the numeral '786', considered sacred by Muslims in the Indian subcontinent, written in Urdu on its belly.

Raju Singh, the shepherd, did not understand what the number meant but after consulting with members of the Muslim community in his village, he learned that it was the Urdu numeral for '786'. This number is considered to be sacred in Islam, and it is often used as a way to invoke the blessings of God.

Mr Singh said that the lamb was born last year and he has so far received offers of Rs 70 lakh and Rs 1 crore for it but decided against selling the animal as he considers it "very dear" to him.

Ever since the lamb's price was estimated to be crores of rupees, it is now kept separate from the other lambs in the herd and is fed a special diet of pomegranates, papayas, millets, and green vegetables.

Due to its high value, Mr Singh has taken special measures to protect the lamb and keeps it inside his house with his family.

Opinion: Opinion: NRC Won't Achieve A Thing In Manipur. Just Look At Assam

That afternoon in May last year, when we visited the refugee camps set up in Zokawthar, a village right across the international boundary line (in this case, a river) separating India from Myanmar, the sun had been beating down hard after weeks of torrential rain. The camps were rife with diseases and clean water shortage issues that forced many refugees to move to the Champhai district headquarters for medical treatment, and those who could afford more moved to Aizawl or even out of Mizoram for a more dignified life.

As I entered one of these makeshift houses protected only by tinned roofs and blue tarpaulin sheets, looking for my friend, I ran into a young woman who responded to my calls in English. Lalringsangi, 25, had escaped her village in Falam (Chin state) when the military junta invaded the year before, along with her sons (six and nine months old), husband, mother, and brother. But before she got married and had a family, Lalringsangi worked for several years as a domestic help in Singapore, where she picked up the foreign language. She wanted to get a refugee card that could help her and her family apply for asylum abroad.

She asked how I could help her get a refugee card that could help her and her family apply for asylum abroad. Like other refugees in the camp, their family was getting by on donations received from civil society, aid groups, and the government, in addition to wages earned by her brother (who was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder) and her husband, both working as lumberjacks.

Although her time abroad wasn't something Lalringsangi fondly remembered, it now offered a better prospect than being a refugee in a place that could offer charity, some security, but not a fighting chance at a bright future.

ec1496o8

This is the typical story of many migrants or refugees fleeing dire circumstances of instability or conflict in their homeland. India's northeast, particularly Manipur and Mizoram, has seen waves of refugees from Myanmar - with which it shares a 1,643-km stretch of border - since the 1988 uprising against the military junta. As reported since March 2021, the bulk of refugees found shelter in a receptive Mizoram, where dominant tribal communities share close ethnic ties with the Chin tribes, much like the Kuki-Zo tribes in Manipur.

In Manipur, the politically dominant Hindu Meiteis in the valley do not have any particular ethnic affectation, even though Myanmar has a sizeable Meitei population. But more importantly, the BJP-led coalition government in Manipur does not care for refugees (unless they are Hindus) in line with the larger absence of a refugee policy. With refugees being turned away and detained in Manipur, the few that made it were only temporarily sheltered by their ethnic kin before they landed up in Mizoram or New Delhi, in the hope of getting a UNHCR refugee card.

Despite this reality, the narrative painted by vested political parties or nationalist gangs is to sound the alarm on an "invasion" by migrants out to displace the native communities from their own land. An armed inter-ethnic conflict continues to play out in Manipur that has killed more than a hundred and displaced thousands of people who can't imagine returning. A majority of the victims are tribals.

Since violence broke out on May 3, the questions I have been fielding are from those wondering if Kukis - the ethnic community that I belong to - are illegal immigrants, poppy cultivators and/or terrorists. As someone who has reported from East to West on communities that are systemically harassed and labelled suspicious by the powers that be, the deep prejudice and nasty accusations have hit home. The roles are reversed in the northeast, where the 'indigenous' identity (the definition of which is far from settled) becomes a weapon to label disempowered folks in the margins here as 'colonial settlers', even though they are not even remotely from the Anglo-Saxon European stock.

arju8vto

Even the peace marches carried out by the Meitei community in Manipur or abroad end with calls for settling the issue by implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC), an exercise carried out in Assam to ostensibly detect illegal immigrants that only left 19 lakh applicants in limbo, yet killed many by suicide. I have seen people in Assam lose precious years of their life in a detention centre on flimsy grounds of being declared an "illegal Bangladeshi" or dying on their way to prove their links to an ancestor.

In Manipur, where villages have turned into rubble and thousands of ancestral homes reduced to ashes, it befuddles me how anyone could imagine producing documents or proving family links in the midst of anarchy. It befuddles me more what sort of peace can be achieved by disenfranchising communities, instead of demanding justice for the dead.

Any exercise in state surveillance will be riddled with racial or ethnic biases. Although an Assamese scholar once theorised to me that this was particularly an issue for "transnational" communities, it's actually the minority underserved communities that always come in the fray. When the NRC was being updated in Assam, the draft lists had even excluded ethnic Ahoms, apart from disproportionately excluding Bengal-origin Muslims and Hindus. Yet the records of foreigners' tribunals consistently showed the systemic exclusion of Bengali Muslims more than any other ethnic community. It has declared people like retired army men illegal foreigners after 30 years of service because of spelling errors in documents, a regular occurrence in India.

For a region that has seen little sync and unity with "mainland" India, the idea of the NRC soon caught fire in the rest of the northeast. Ironically enough, the demand for securing borders along multiple nationalisms in a region filled with contiguous ethnic identities found more resonance with a Hindu nationalist government in the centre than the past status quo-ist yet secular-branded government.

ka1t0go8

In a politically motivated exercise that was 'too little, too late', the Manipur cabinet formed a subcommittee to survey 'illegal immigrants' in March, which is alleged to be one of the main reasons for the current clashes. Per documents recently reviewed by NDTV, over 2,000 illegal immigrants from Myanmar were found in just four districts by the committee that also had Letpao Haokip, a minister from the Kuki tribe who had conversed with the immigrants in the dialect. However, the document, alleged to be an 'initial report summary' submitted after the violence, titled 'Role of illegal Myanmari immigrants in the recent violence in Manipur' (sic), runs contrary to the subcommittee reports from visits to Churachandpur and Chandel districts.

Besides the reported figures of illegal settlements cited in the NDTV report, the subcommittee reports make no mention of "objections raised by illegal immigrants" to their proposal for shelter homes nor any discussions on poppy cultivation. This was confirmed to me by a subcommittee member who did not wish to be named.

However, the same member would not confirm or deny the undated and unsigned 'summary' report that concluded, "the recent violence in Manipur was fuelled by influential illegal poppy cultivators and drug lords from Myanmar settling in Manipur" (sic).

40ot62a8

But this isn't about singling out the Meiteis, amongst whom the consensus for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status or an NRC was built after they suffered retaliatory killings and displacement in the clashes. Even if the narrative of an invasion can be believed, it is at the instance of Chief Minister N Biren Singh that Manipur did not admit refugees from Myanmar on humanitarian grounds. Valley-based civil society groups were, in fact, not opposed to offering them shelter with temporary IDs, fearful of a situation where the influx rate remained unknown, and the entire community came under suspicion.

But this is what inevitably happened, and the violence that ensued suited a government that thrives in chaos and suspicion. And the indigenous communities - who were once seeking self-determination - are falling for it hook, line, and sinker.

Adipurush Box Office Collection Day 6: Prabhas' Film Continues To Freefall

Adipurush, a controversial retelling of the Ramayana, continued its downward descent at the box office with Wednesday's earnings dipping between 30 and 35% from Tuesday. Day 6's earnings added upto around Rs 3.25 crore net, bringing the film's total so far to around Rs 120 crore net, reports Box Office India. Adipurush's fortunes have been somewhat redeemed by the film's Telugu version. Had there been only a Hindi version, Adipurush could have been the "grandmother of all disasters," according to Box Office India. It should be noted that the film clocked good numbers in its first weekend – the fall from grace began on Monday when poor reviews and word-of-mouth took effect.

Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, breaks with tradition in its depiction of the Ramayana. This combined with the street=style dialogues and the heavy-handed use of VFX have been the focus points of criticism of the film.

Last weekend, the makers of Adipurush announced they would revise some of the dialogues and they have indeed done so, replacing the word "baap" with "Lanka" in this sentence spoken by actor Devdatta Nage as Bajrang in the scene in which Lanka is set on fire - "Kapda tere baap ka, tel tere baap ka, aag bhi tere baap ki, aur jalegi bhi tere baap ki."

Ticket prices for Adipurush have also been reduced for two days – they will be available at Rs 150 on June 22 and 23. However, there is a catch – audiences will have to pay for the 3D glasses they use in the theatres.

Adipurush stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan as Raghav, Janaki and Lankesh respectively. In addition to Devdatta Nage as Bajrang, Sunny Singh rounds out the main cast as Shesh.

Viral: 1994 Clip Of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Walking The Ramp Thrills The Internet

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one of the most recognisable Bollywood stars across the globe and for good reason. The superstar, who won the Miss World pageant in 1994, has for long been described as one of the most beautiful women in the world. Nearly three decades later, the description continues to follow her faithfully. Earlier this week, fans of Aishwarya Rai were in for a surprise when a vintage video of the actress walking the ramp in 1994 – the same year she won Miss World – surfaced on Reddit and went viral in no time. The video features Aishwarya Rai sashaying down the ramp in a black dress. Offering details, the caption of the Reddit post says, “Rare clip of Aishwarya Rai walking the ramp for Pierre Cardin at the Oberoi Hotel, Mumbai, 1994.”

Fans of the star lost no time in praising Aishwarya Rai for her grace and poise on the ramp. One user said, “I mean, she'd beat even any of the best American supermodels till date on her poise and the sheer elegance and eccentricity she possesses while presenting herself.”

“Her and Sushmita [Sen], both amazing at the runway. None of the Miss India's after that were this good,” opined another user.

Just last month, another set of throwback images featuring Aishwarya Rai alongside Shah Rukh Khan went viral on social media. The pictures in question were from the actress' appearance at the Cannes Film Festival for the screening of their film Devdas back in 2002. In the photos, Aishwarya can be seen in a yellow saree, while SRK can be seen in a tuxedo.

Speaking of Aishwarya Rai and throwbacks, Shahid Kapoor – one of Bollywood's most popular stars – recently recalled working as a background dancer in Subhash Ghai's Taal, headlined by the actress. In a chat with RJ Rohini of Radio Nasha, Shahid said that shooting alongside Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the song Kahin Aag Lage Lag Jaave was the “worst and the best day of my life at that time.”

“No one knows this, but that day I met with an accident. I used to ride my motorcycle and I fell off it. So, I remember I reached the set very flustered because I had fallen off and I was like, what just happened to me? And that was the day this happened (special appearance with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) with me. I'll always remember it as the worst and the best day of my life at that time,” he said.

You can watch the song here. Pause at 2:19 to spot Shahid Kapoor.

On the work front, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen in Ponniyin Selvan: II. She received widespread acclaim for her performance as Nandini in the film.

Shekhar Kapur Reveals "No One Went To See" Masoom . Then This Happened

Ace filmmaker Shekhar Kapur shared a major Throwback Thursday post on his Instagram. The post is about his directorial debut Masoom and its journey from "empty" halls to "Housefull" ones. In tinsel town, Friday seems to hold reins of fortune. But for the director, it was one Thursday, which made his maiden venture witness audience rushing for tickets. Mr. Kapur still has no idea how that miracle happened. He wonders what actually transpired between an empty Wednesday and a busy Thursday till date. Whether courtesy of "sudden word of mouth" or allignment of stars, Shekhar Kapur's passion turned into reality and Masoom overcame the initial hurdles after its release.

Shekhar Kapur shared a heartwarming black and white frame with this post. The frame features Jugal Hansraj, Urmila Matondkar and Aradhana Srivastav as child artists along with the director. Needless to say, these three children made the film stand the test of time with their brilliant performances. Mr Kapur began the post with the first day first show scenario of Masoom. Fans might be surprised to know that the show had only three people in attendance: Shekhar Kapur and a young couple.

Take a look at the post here:

"Tell you a little story about how Masoom the movie almost died? We finished the movie before we showed it to anyone. Before we sold a single part of it. That was the pleasure of making films those days ..Distributors loved the movie when they saw it. But on release the halls were completely empty .. I remember going to the first day first show , and the Cinema hall was completely empty .. except for me and a young couple in a dark corner, that showed no interest in the film at all," Mr Kapur wrote in the post.

Did the picture change the following weekend? "That was the Friday of the release, and the same story Saturday .. on Sunday, Monday and again on Tuesday .. no one went to see film. The distributors called to say they are taking the film off the theatres on Saturday ... iso 'We know you've made a great movie .. but sorry.. the theatre owners are going take the movie off .. there are no audiences..." Shekhar Kapur added further.

Did the empty halls crush the spirit of a debutant director? To quote Mr Kapur's words, "'Oh well' I thought 'There go my dreams of being a filmmaker' I remember eating a lot chaat that day at Hill Road. That was my passion other than film making ..."

And then a phone call changed the entire story. "The next day, my uncle Vijay Anand, the famous film Director called me and said 'Hey Shekhar , can you arrange some tickets for us .. the house is full ..What ? This was Thursday. I rushed to the theatre and saw lines outside waiting for tickets .. what happened ? I asked .. what changed in a day ? The distributors by then had to beg borrow and steal to retain some of the theatres .. and of course thereafter the film never stopped and went on to create history..." Mr Kapur continued in his post.

"I'll still never know .. what happened between the Wednesday and the Thursday ? Did the stars align differently .. a very sudden word of mouth ? Phew .. imagine if that Thursday had never happened there may have been no Masoom and I may have had go back to be a Chartered Accountant," Mr Kapur concluded.

Masoom features Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi in the lead roles along with Tanuja, Supriya Pathak and Saeed Jaffrey. The film portrays the complexities of conjugal life and deals with the theme of man-woman relationship in the most sensitive manner.

Land Acquisition For Cricket Stadium In Varanasi Completed

Land acquisition has been completed for the proposed international cricket stadium in Varanasi that is expected to be ready by the end of 2024, the Uttar Pradesh government said in a statement here on Monday.

The stadium in the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have a seating capacity of 30,000 and will be built at a cost of nearly Rs 350 crore.

The land acquisition process got expedited in September 2022. The UP Cabinet had approved Rs 120 crore for the purchase of land from 31 farmers, the statement said.

The stadium will be operated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Under a long-term lease agreement, the BCCI will assume responsibility for the stadium's operation and management.

The Board will also contribute a fixed annual amount to the government in exchange for the lease.

"Approximately Rs 350 crore will be spent in the construction of this stadium, which is being built on a wide campus of about 31 acres," the statement said.

The stadium will have a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators, it added.

Additional Chief Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare Navneet Sehgal said that the land has been handed over to the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) by the government.

Larsen & Toubro has been made its nodal agency. Currently, the finalisation of the stadium's design is underway. Once the design and map are approved, construction will start, he said.

"UP is full of talented cricketers. Renowned players such as Suresh Raina, Kuldeep Yadav, leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, fast bowler Praveen Kumar and amazing batsman and fielder Mohammad Kaif are from Uttar Pradesh. UP's cricketers are doing well in IPL and other league matches.

"The stadium will help in honing the skills of these players along with other talented cricketers. The stadium will be yet another step to realise Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision of establishing Uttar Pradesh as a powerhouse in sports," he said.

Japan-Backed Fund Offers $6.2 Billion To Buy This Chip Manufacturing Firm

A fund backed by Japan's government has offered to buy out JSR Corp., a firm central to the manufacture of semiconductors, in a deal worth $6.2 billion, the company said Monday.

JSR said in a statement its board was in favour of the deal, which would privatise a company that is a key producer of compounds vital to the manufacture of semiconductors.

Japan Investment Corporation (JIC), the fund behind the deal, hopes to finalise it by December, but there are regulatory procedures that make a precise timeline hard to predict, JSR said.

"This is truly an exciting day for JSR," company CEO Eric Johnson told reporters after the announcement.

"With JIC, we aim to be a catalyst for reform in the semiconductor materials space, as well as to improve the biopharmaceutical capabilities" both domestically and globally, he said.

The deal, he added, would "enable acceleration and reform" in the chip sector.

JIC is an investment fund founded in 2018, with the government as the majority investor, along with smaller private-sector partners.

The 0.9 trillion yen offer comes as Tokyo, along with many governments, tries to stabilise supply chains for the chips that are central to the modern economy.

The tiny slices of silicon are found in all types of electronics -- from LED lightbulbs and washing machines to cars and smartphones.

They are also critical to core services such as healthcare, law and order and utilities.

Globally, semiconductors are forecast to become a $1-trillion industry by 2030.

But pandemic disruption and tensions with China have raised concerns globally about the risks in existing chip supply chains.

Countries from France to Israel have been looking for ways to incentivise chip-making at home, or take greater control of production.

In April, the European parliament and EU states agreed a plan to boost local chip production and build a global market share in the key industry.

And in May, Micron said it would invest $3.6 billion to produce next-generation semiconductors in Japan after the country's prime minister met with some of the world's biggest chipmakers.

Japan has already agreed to pour half a billion dollars into a new project to develop and make next-gen chips domestically.

That deal involves eight major companies, including Sony, SoftBank and Toyota, who are partnering in a new firm called Rapidus that hopes to begin mass production by 2027.

TSMC and Sony have also inked their own partnership for a $7 billion plant in Japan.

JSR is a market leader in the manufacture of materials including photoresists for circuit formation, which are central to producing semiconductors.

It controls around 30 percent of the global market for photoresists, according to Bloomberg, and along with two other Japanese firms almost completely dominates production of two other key ingredients used to make displays and chips.

Rumours of the possible acquisition deal had been circulating for days, and JSR stock closed up 21.64 percent to 3,934 yen ahead of the company's announcement.

Travis Lundy, an analyst at Quiddity Advisors who publishes on SmartKarma, said the JIC offer made sense "given Japanese government's efforts to grow the semiconductor industry".

"JIC is starting here. It would surprise me quite a bit if that is where they stopped," he added in a note published when rumours of the deal first emerged.

Chips have also emerged as a key source of tension between Washington and Beijing, with the United States leaning on Japan and the Netherlands this year to curb exports of semiconductor technology.

Ukraine Forces Reclaim New Russian-Occupied Settlement: Defence Ministry

Ukrainian forces have recaptured another formerly Russian-held settlement on the southern front between the two armies, deputy defence minister Ganna Malyar said Monday.

"Defence forces returned Rivnopil under our control. Let's push on," the minister posted on her Telegram account, referring to a rural community in the Donetsk region.

This month Ukraine launched a counteroffensive against the Russian troops occupying around a fifth of its territory in the south and east of the country.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has admitted that the advance has not gone as fast as had been hoped, despite Ukraine starting to deploy more Western-supplied weapons and tanks.

But there has been a breakthrough in the Mokri Yaly river valley, south of Velika Novosilka in the Donetsk, and the recapture of Rivnopil would be a continuation of this advance.

Russian forces had confirmed that there was fighting for Rivnopil on June 16, two weeks after the official launch of Ukraine's summer counteroffensive.

Earlier, in a summary of last week's fighting, Malyar said another 17 square kilometres (6.5 square miles) had been liberated, bringing the total to 130 square kilometres.

The biggest pocket of reclaimed territory is south of Vugledar, including Rivnopil.

But Ukraine has also launched operations pushing towards Tokmak in the Zaporizhzhia region, and is battling further north in Donetsk to secure the flanks around the city of Bakhmut.

The love and life we have shared together continue to mean everything to us, but sadly, what we seek currently for ourselves doesn't align. We gave it our all, until we couldn't anymore."

She further wrote, "A relationship ending is heartbreaking and it's been a tough ordeal for us and our families. Thankfully, we have had some time to process this, but what we shared and built together panned for over a decade. We still need a lot more time and healing to get to the next phase of our lives. Our current focus is to get through this period with love, respect and support towards each other. We will continue to co-parent the love of our lives, Maya. And continue to be each other's cheerleaders and pillars of support."

"Resolved Most Problems With Support From India Led By Modi": Lanka Minister

Sri Lankan minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has praised the Indian government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for helping his country during the economic and political crisis.

He also said the Sri Lankan government will soon set up Truth and Reconciliation Commission to bring long-standing peace to the island nation with consensus from all communities.

The minister further said the Sri Lankan government is holding continuous interactions with the Tamil diaspora and people and leaders living in different parts of the world.

"We resolved most of our problems with the support we got from the Indian government led by PM Modi. We are hopeful to bring normalcy back to Sri Lanka" Rajapakshe, who handles the Justice Department, told PTI on Saturday on the sidelines of the Peace Conference in Nagpur city of Maharashtra.

Sri Lanka was hit by an unprecedented financial crisis in 2022 that also sparked political turmoil in the island nation which led to the ouster of the all-powerful Rajapakshe family.

The crisis led to the formation of a government led by Ranil Wickremesinghe which was tasked with stabilising the economy and restoring the financial health of the economy.

Rajapakshe said Sri Lanka witnessed 30 years of war and disastrous things in which 60,000 lives were lost.

"I took many initiatives to help the people affected by the war. We have commenced all the process in 2016 and launched the offices for missing people, reparation of peace, and reconciliation of peace," Rajapakshe added.

He was replying to a query on complaints from ethnic communities and religious minorities in Sri Lanka about alleged injustice and discrimination and the role of the Sri Lankan justice system.

"The Sri Lankan government will establish Truth and Reconciliation Commission and we are trying to ensure long-standing peace in consensus with all communities.

"We have resolved many issues. There were several litigations and so many prisoners. However, now all these issues have become minimal. Sri Lanka is addressing all the issues from every angle," Rajapakshe said.

He said the Sri Lankan government held dialogues and interactions with the Tamil community to reach some understanding to resolve the issues.

"We are holding continuous interactions with the Tamil diaspora, people and leaders living in different parts of the world. Now, all have supported establishing peace. They also categorically say that everybody in Sri Lanka has suffered. It is not confined to a particular community in Sri Lanka," the minister said.

He said the government is of the view that these problems mustn't be passed to the next generations.

"We should ensure that in our country all Sri Lankans whether they are Muslims, Tamils, or Sinhalese live in peace with the Sri Lankan identity. We are hopeful to accomplish this," he said.

Rajapakshe also spoke about how Sri Lanka is addressing the economic crises in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.

"The country's economy was in dire straits and inflation was around 97 per cent (when the new government took over). We were going through a very difficult period. We didn't even have 2 million when we took over. We told this truth to the people," he said.

Our target was to bring inflation to a single digit in a year and ensure people get essential foods, coal and gas and increase foreign reserve up to 5 billion dollars, he added.

"We have brought down the inflation to 21 per cent. People do not face power cuts and coal shortages. Essential goods are available adequately. Our foreign reserve stands at 3.5 billion and we hope to increase it to 5 billion dollars," Rajapakshe added.

He said the government has stabilised the political and economic situation in the country.

Queried on allegations that ex-Sri Lankan president tampered with police records to stall investigations into the alleged discovery of mass graves in an area where he was a military officer during the Marxist rebellion in 1989, Rajapakshe said, "There is no possibility of tampering with the records as he (Rajapaksa) is not in the power".

"There had been some allegations in the last few days, and certainly, authorities will continue with the investigation. If guilty are found the normal laws of the country will take course," he added.

Rajapakshe also spoke about introducing a new bill to be passed in Sri Lankan Parliament next month to address the corruption in the public sector.

Blog: Blog: Back To School With Artificial Intelligence

The emergence of Generative AI, defined by its ability to generate novel, human-like output, will mean that a large majority of students currently in school will experience a work and life environment very different from what they are used to.

This paradigm shift is likely to cause huge realignments in society. According to a recent report by Goldman Sachs, upto 300 million jobs across the world are exposed to automation.

This has far-reaching implications for India. It is incumbent upon policymakers and regulators in India to rapidly come up with a framework that will allow our future generations to be competitive.

To navigate this challenge successfully, we need to approach the challenge at multiple levels.

First, we need to design a curriculum in which AI and Data Science are taught in an age-appropriate manner. Second, we need to rapidly upskill teachers and coaches to impart these skills to students. Third, we need to enable much closer interaction between the industry and private sector, schools, and regulators to update the curriculum frequently.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), one of the largest education boards in the country, is already taking steps for this. The CBSE collaborates with various industries, organisations, and institutions to develop and update the curriculum for skill-based subjects. These collaborations ensure that the curriculum is aligned with industry requirements and reflects the latest trends and advancements in skill-based domains.

Schools will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between the current education system and the future needs of industry. Teachers must upskill themselves through the CBSE's training programmes, specifically focused on using these new skills. This way, skill education will contribute to the overall economic growth and development of a nation by creating a highly skilled and competitive workforce.

Many private schools in India have already engaged AI implementation champions and coaches. According to Soumya Iyer - AI Implementation Head at the Sanskriti Group of Schools, Pune, "Artificial Intelligence and other such disruptive technologies will inevitably bring large changes to how people will work and what professions will still be relevant. As educators, our responsibility is to give our children a toolkit to thrive in the future".

Introducing students to AI is necessary but it is not sufficient, as there is a huge element of unpredictability about the extent and timing of the changes that AI shall bring.

In order to come up with the right solutions, the problems and challenges we are trying to solve must be framed correctly. Regulators and schools need to ask what capabilities are likely to overcome the obsolescence that disruptive technologies shall bring.

The role of a good education is to allow children how to learn, not what to learn. The consensus of most global experts is that there are some skills that will always be relevant; they are creative and original thinking, good communication and decision-making skills. To help equip our children with these skills, we must go back to the first principles of thinking.

Decision-making skills are the most important to focus on. This is done best when parents and teachers work as partners to encourage children to understand the connection between effort and reward. Giving children opportunities to make decisions from an early stage is vital.

To prepare our next generation for the future, it is important for policymakers, schools and parents to work in tandem and create a roadmap that frames our societal goals correctly. Even though this paradigm shift heralding the age of AI might seem daunting, humanity has overcome and creatively solved several existential challenges in the past. It is adapting against these challenges that make us human. Einstein said this most simply when he observed, "Human Spirit must prevail over technology".

6 Tips For Men That Can Help Keep The Heart Healthy

Maintaining a healthy heart is crucial for overall well-being, and it's never too early for men to start taking care of their cardiovascular health. Heart disease is a leading cause of death among men worldwide, and in India, it tends to affect men at a younger age due to various factors. These factors include genetics, sedentary lifestyles, poor eating habits and increasing stress levels. To combat this alarming surge in the cardiac disease, it is essential to raise awareness and educate young men about preventive measures to protect their cardiovascular health. Adopting healthy habits at a young age can significantly reduce the risk of developing heart-related issues later in life.

Below are some essential habits that men can incorporate into their daily lives to keep their hearts healthy and strong:

1. Regular check-ups:

Most men neglect regular medical check-ups and remain unaware of their risk factors. High blood pressure and diabetes, often referred to as "silent killers," tend to manifest without warning signs. In India, high blood pressure has become increasingly common above the age of 30 and mostly remains asymptomatic. Similarly, diabetes is also very common in India and a considerable percentage of individuals with diabetes remain undiagnosed. Yearly examinations provide an opportunity for men to discuss any concerns they may have with their doctor.

2. Quit smoking:

Smoking not only harms the heart by causing inflammation and damage to the arteries and blood vessels but also increases the risk of blood clots in the brain and other organs. Smoking also causes a variety of cancers. Quitting smoking is a challenging but crucial step towards better heart health.

3. Maintain a healthy weight:

Maintaining a healthy weight is vital for cardiovascular health. Excess body weight strains the heart and increases the risk of conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes. A combination of a nutritious diet and regular physical exercise is key to effective weight management. Calculating the body mass index (BMI) is an essential tool for determining an individual's optimal weight range based on their height-to-weight ratio. For men, the BMI figure should ideally fall between 18.5 and 23.

4. Regular physical exercise:

Physical inactivity is a significant risk factor for heart disease. Men should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise each week or 75 minutes of vigorous activity. Incorporating activities such as brisk walking, running, cycling, swimming, or participating in sports into their daily routines is crucial. Regular exercise strengthens the heart, improves blood circulation, lowers blood pressure, aids in weight control, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.

5. Balanced and nutritious diet:

A balanced and nutritious diet is crucial for heart health in both men and women. It is recommended to consume plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Avoiding refined carbohydrates (esp. sweets), sugary beverages, processed and fried foods, and excessive salt is essential. Opt for complex carbohydrates (e.g., whole grains) and low-fat dairy products and limit the consumption of red meat. Including fish oil supplements or incorporating omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty seafood like salmon into the diet can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease and support cardiovascular health in men. Nuts such as walnuts, pistachio and almonds are also excellent for heart health.

6. Stress management and adequate sleep:

Chronic stress negatively impacts heart health. Men and women tend to cope with stress differently, with men often internalizing their feelings. Engaging in stress-relieving activities such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or pursuing relaxing hobbies becomes crucial for men's mental and cardiovascular well-being. Adequate sleep is also necessary for maintaining cardiovascular health. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night, as sleep deprivation has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, hypertension and obesity.

By prioritizing these essential habits, men can significantly reduce their risk of heart disease and enjoy a healthier and happier life. It is crucial for men to start incorporating these habits at a young age to establish a strong foundation for heart health. Additionally, promoting these habits among young men and raising awareness about the importance of cardiovascular health can have a positive impact on the overall well-being of the male population.

6 Dalit Homes Built Under PM Scheme In Madhya Pradesh Bulldozed

Bulldozing houses of the scheduled caste community in Raipura village of Sagar district, allegedly without serving notices, has sparked a massive political outrage with the Madhya Pradesh government in damage control mode.

Ten houses were demolished. Out of these, six were being built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Friday hit out at the ruling BJP, alleging that the atrocities against the Dalit community has reached its peak.

Mayawati's BSP and Arvind Kejriwal's AAP too targeted the state government and the local BJP MLA and Revenue Minister Govind Singh Rajput in the matter.

The Minister said that the government has suspended the ranger who ordered the demolition and the government will get the houses reconstructed.

Former Chief Minister and Congress MP Digvijaya Singh reached the spot and protested along with the affected Ahirwar families in Raipura village.

"I came to know that the houses of Dalits and others were demolished with the help of bulldozers under police protection in Rapura village around 10.30 PM on Wednesday," the Rajya Sabha member told reporters.

Digvijaya Singh stages sit-in against demolition of Dalits' houses

The Minister accused the Congress leader of indulging in caste politics.

"Digvijaya Singh should stop playing caste politics in Surkhi assembly constituency, as there is no discrimination here on caste lines. I talked to the district collector on Thursday morning only over razing of houses without serving notices. The concerned forest ranger has been suspended. The state's CM has assured that whatever is needed by the families, be it houses or plots, will be provided to the affected families," said the Minister.

Children were seen playing in the debris which was their home till a day before.

"Six houses of PM Awas were razed. No notice was served; it's our ancestral property," said a member of an affected family.

"We said wait for 10 minutes, we will remove the goods, but they pulled us out and bulldozed our homes," said another.

According to the Forest Department, only those who were illegally occupying the government forest land were evicted.

"Yesterday the encroachments on forest land were removed. They were in the process of removal for the last one year. A case was registered against them under section 80 of Forest Act and a notice was issued against them. Notice was given many times," said Mahendra Pratap Singh, Divisional Forest Officer, Sagar.
